As winter wanes and the grey skies begin to lighten, add some more colour to your life with our art guild. Art for the Heart is offering a six-week series, Mosaic Montage. The spring series includes colour theory and explores how to make the most of alcohol-based inks, such as Sharpie markers. The classes take […]
Like all well-known stories, the one in which Jesus calls Simon, Andrew, James and John as His first disciples is easy to take for granted as we look at the time and place as being so far removed from us. They were fishermen – an unpretentious but respectable job – in Galilee and they’d had […]
It brings us joy that Dennis Thompson has come out of retirement as he joins us as our organist. Dennis studied piano in Barrie with Jessie Bryson, up until he obtained his ARCT, and he studied preliminary organ with Lloyd Tufford at Collier Street United Church. He went to university in 1958 – and he […]
This week’s theme seems to be how God uses each of us to do great things. For example, the Betty White Challenge helped an array of animal rescue agencies, in Barrie and beyond. Many people gave a little and together, their funds will do a lot. One such agency is Furry Friends Animal Shelter in […]
Doesn’t it seem that $20 doesn’t go very far in the grocery store these days? All too often, a trip to the grocery store is $35 or $50. Whether it’s supply chain issues, poor harvests, the cost of transport – the cause of the rising cost really isn’t the issue. The issue is food is […]
The simple nativity scenes, the carols, the decorations and lights — it’s tempting to put them away now that Christmas has passed and we’re taking (or have taken) down the tree. But the miracle still remains: God loves humankind so much, He became one of us. That may not be a simple thought to wrap […]
This is our Mitten Tree. It’s bare – but it won’t be for long. And it’s one way we at St. Andrew’s look to share. With hats, scarves, socks and yes, mittens, we enjoy caring for our neighbours as winter arrives. When you’re out shopping or getting crafty (with the knitting needles), think of those […]
Certainty isn’t faith; self-sufficiency is. Our faith is a journey as we share our lives with God – and that includes doubt, especially as we encounter challenges and difficulties. In the third book in our fall study series, we explore faith and what is often taught in churches – something which author Brian McLaren notes […]
Being in Barrie since before Confederation (1849 to be exact; if you want to read more, check out our History page), St. Andrew’s has sent young men to war for generations. Each Sunday before Nov. 11, we recall these young lives cut too short. As he plays and later as the names are read out […]
Our west-facing sanctuary window, featuring Jesus our Lord, has been under cover all summer, as window restoration specialists have been hard at work all summer not just on the sill and supporting beams, but on revitalizing the window. The project is expected to be complete later this month.
