Noon Organ Recital Series
Wed. Sept. 21st 2011

 Paul

Paul Gockel

I'm going to be playing a lot of Bach. You can’t have an organ concert without him,” Gockel said. “I will also be playing a variety of pieces from throughout the centuries.”

Gockel grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He starting playing piano in Grade 2, but it wasn’t until he attended an all-Bach recital that he was hooked on the organ, and Bach.

He started organ lessons right away, and played his first recital a year later.

Gockel moved to Muskoka in 1977 and joined the Cellar Singers. He has appeared in Bracebridge Rotary productions and helped organize the Muskoka chapter of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

He is currently the organist and choir director at Knox in Bracebridge.

“I think this is a great concert series. Anything that promotes the organ and gives those who love it a chance to play is exceptional,” he said. “It would be nice to see more people take up an interest in the organ. I think a series like this one might just do the trick.”
