Our focus is to proclaim the greater glory of God. Our music strives to depict the wonder, the mystery, the suffering, the awe, the greatness and the joy of our God amongst us.
The Senior Choir (some are 50 year members!) is a devoted and musically-gifted group who skilfully prepare a new anthem weekly which strives to lead the congregation to a more profound experience of the weekly scripture message. Our repertoire encompasses a wide range of styles :16th century motets to contemporary Christian choruses. We eagerly explore newly composed music. Harpists, violinists, cellists oboists and flautists are invited to play throughout the year, We have many souls to feed with many different appetites.
Hymn-singing at St. Andrew's is a powerful experience. When over 200 voices give their all on the final verse of a favourite hymn the unanimity of spirit is tangible. This is especially at Easter when the glorious sound of brass and timpani inspires us all to greater Hallelujah!
The church is a beautiful space acoustically; voices blend to create a sound that has an intimate presence in every corner of the building and also hints at the divine. A fine Yamaha grand piano is often part of our worship experience. Our strong congregational singing goes hand in hand with an outstanding pipe organ: a 1962 Casavant Freres two- manual organ. In 1995, the organ was re-voiced and enhanced with a majestic trumpet stop. The organ's many voices express beauty and richness from the mystery of quietest flute during the prelude to the glory of full organ in the postlude. Future plans are called for mechanical renovation of the organ and further additions of stops.
Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always
