Our nursery, for infants up to age 3, is located in a bright and cheery room and staffed by welcoming and capable caregivers. If your child is with you during the service and begins to fuss, the ushers at the top of the stairs can give you directions to the nursery. At St. Andrew’s, our 2008/09 church school will be using a curriculum called PowerXpress which uses a Workshop Rotation model. This style of learning focuses on one Bible story or theme for a 4 week unit. The children are divided into three groups: Kindergarten and Grade 1, Grade 2 and 3, and Grades 4 to 8. Each week the groups will visit different stations to experience God’s love and care through science, art, games, storytelling, computers, and music.
Children begin their morning in the Sanctuary for a time of worship and a children’s story. They all proceed downstairs to our Activity Room for joint prayer, singing, and an introduction to the morning’s theme. The children then divide into groups and are brought to their station by a Guide who remains to help the Station Leader with the lesson for that day. We also offer a program for high school youth on Sunday mornings that includes a combination of time in worship, organized classes, and a monthly mission activity. Some topics to be explored this year include leadership, cooperation, and peacemaking.
